The Law

Can the 10 Commandments Save us?

If the 10 Commandments could have breached the chasm between God and man, Christ would not have had to die. St Paul said, “..for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
Gal. 2:21. “Because by observing the law; no one will be justified.” (Gal 2:16)

“I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the Law of Moses.” A 13:38

It was foretold in the Old Testament that a new covenant was coming, Jer.31:33, “I will put my Law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God and they shall be my people.”

St Paul, addressing Christians, said, “you are a letter written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, a letter written not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” II Cor 3:3

The Law of Moses was written for the Jews and was only to last until the time of Christ. “The Law came by Moses but Grace and Truth through Jesus Christ.” Jhn 1:17

“For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second..” (Heb 8:7) ..”When he said, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete. Whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.” (Heb 8:13)

When Christ was crucified the temple veil was torn in two. “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace.” Eph 2:14,15

Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” Gal.3:14,25.

“What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of your transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; your Seed, who is Christ.”Gal.3:16,19

“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath” Lk 6:5 “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy.”Ja 4:12a

“For by grace have you been saved by faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” Eph 2:8,9

“Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.” Col 2:16
