The End

End time forecasting has been in play ever since Christ was here on earth. The Apostles were understandably eager for the continuity of Christ’s reign, reluctant to grasp the concept of a kingdom that was spiritual, not physical. They even made reference to the fact that He would come during their lifetime.

At this present time the Mayan calendar has the spotlight for endtime prophecy, because it suspends on Dec 21, 2012. But Jesus states in Mrk 13:32 and Mtt 24:33  that only God the Father knows the hour when it will take place. Even so, end time speculation appears to have been a common denominator for mankind throughout time, in spite of the fact that God only knows.

One leading psychologist believes this is because it feels better to look beyond our own individual mortality; to a more distant and collective end. But in reality the world will cease to exist for us as individuals when our lifetime ends. “Man is destined to die once, but after this the judgment.” Heb 9:27

There are three schools of thought on the manner in which the end will come; premillenial, postmillennial, and amillenial.  The latter being the denial that an earthly millennium of universal righteousness and peace will either precede or follow the advent of Jesus Christ. Some theorize and espouse a “rapture” event; when the good guys will be swooped upwardly leaving the bad guys behind to suffer a while; that they might see the error of their way. Rapture is not found in the Bible, neither is a second chance. Christ gives parables of fish and wheat in which the order is reversed; the bad removed first. Mtt 13:37-47

In Jhn 5:24 Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from DEATH to life.” (25)“I tell you the truth, a time is coming and HAS NOW COME when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. (26) For as the Father has life in Himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in Himself. And He has given him authority to judge because He is the Son of Man. (28) DO NOT BE AMAZED AT THIS, for a time is coming when A-L-L who are in the graves will hear His voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”

In this passage, from John 5:24-29, Jesus speaks of a first and a second resurrection. The first is when we are quickened by Christ’s indwelling, Eph 2:1 “says some are dead in trespasses and sins,”Paul says, “wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.” Eph 5:14. Again in I Tim 5:6 Paul refers to a widow who lives for pleasure is “dead even while she lives.”

And the second resurrection is when we are raised from the grave to a new and endless life. Rev 20:6 says “Blessed and Holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them.

You have no doubt heard of the “Antichrist” in relation to the end of time prophecy? All that “Antichrist” means is anyone, or any system, that is anti-Christ; against Christ. This is referenced only 5 times in the Bible, in the First and Second books of John: I Jhn 2:18 and 22, chap  4:3, and II Jhn 1:7.

Have you heard a current phrase of “doomsday preppers?” Which refer to those who make ready for an apocalypse by building elaborate bunkers and stocking them with survival staples. The Bible does repeatedly caution men to make ready for the end too.. but in reading the Bible, the official end-time manual, you will find that spiritual preparedness is top priority.  Go to II Peter chapter 3 where it says, (vs 11) “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and Godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.”

You will find a passage in the Bible which reads like the evening news,
“..There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God..” II Tim 3:1-4. Sound familiar?

Many disciples left Jesus at a point in His ministry when they could see that much would be required of them. He then turned to His 12 Apostles and asked, “are you going to leave me too?” Peter replied, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words to eternal life.” Jhn 6:67,68.
