Church of God
Many people wonder why so many different denominations evolved down through time since the Christian church was established, approx
2,000 years ago.
You can read about the first Christian church in the Book of Acts where it states that “the Lord added to the church daily such as were being saved (A 2:47) which was before sectarian effort or manmade membership.
St Paul said “I beseech you brethren that you keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the Church of God, which He bought with His own blood. (A 20:28)
Commitment to Christ is the mode of acceptance. “To as many as received Him and believed in His Name, to them gave He the right to become the children of God”(Jhn 1:12). St Peter said, in referring to Christ, “upon this Rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Mtt 16:18)
Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if any man hears my voice and opens the door I will come in”(Rev 3:20). He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.. no one can snatch them away from me, and I give them life everlasting; and they shall never perish forever, and no man shall pluck them out of my hand.” (Jhn 10:27,28)
His church is not divided, he said, “There is one body, one Spirit.. one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. (Mrk 3:24,25)
In fact Jesus prayed that His followers might all be one in Jhn 17, and not just for those at that time, “but for all those who believe in Him through the Word.”
But the nature of man is such that he felt the need to improve on God’s Flock, by assortment, management, and designation. Although there are presently hundreds of different denominational pastures, so to speak, God knows those among them whose hearts are sincerely open to Him.
We can never have doctrinal unity, but those who honor Jesus Christ are all united in Him.
